About

"Artessano" is the dream and hopefully soon the reality of artisan student Ida Johansson. At the age of 26, after successfully founded and managed an online marketing company, she decided she needed a break from the office work and started a new project with one of her big passions: jewellery.

Ida was born on a small, beautiful island in the south of Finland. There she was brought up between animals, sea and forest, and has ever since felt a strong respect and love for the nature. As a child she loved reading stories of Scandinavian mythology, which gave her a great deal of imagination and later on inspiration for her creations.

After finishing high school, Ida decided she needed to see the world and ended up in Spain, where she studied, lived and worked for 7 years. Her last home was in Lima, Peru, where she did some business development for her company's affiliate. Now she is back in Finland to study traditional goldsmithing techniques.

Ida is a dreamer and a fulfiller. A forever free soul who denies to be tamed. A gypsy heart that is always longing for new places to be discovered, new experiences to be lived, to open up her mind and learn about other ways of thinking. She believes in goodness and generosity within life and people, but above all she believes in respect for all things living.

Artessano is the name she has given this project to pay respect to the ancient artisan techniques and knowledge. "Artessano" comes from the Spanish word "artesano" which means artisan. "Artesano" in itself is a composition of two words; "arte" which means art, and "sano" which means healthy/good/moral/.

The mission of Artessano is to support ethical and sustainable development. To defend the knowledge and art of artisans and craftsmen around the world, and to protest against programmed obsolesence, mass production and unsustainable use of raw material and nature.

All products of Artessano are handmade by Ida.
